Just a little blatant self-promotion… I had my composition recital this past weekend. Here is a little taste:
Rhapsody for String Quartet by Daniel Garrick
This short work for String Quartet follows a poem by Nicaraguan writer and poet Rubén Darío. The poem Nocturno describes the agitation of a sleepless night when one’s mind is filled with thoughts of a long-lost lover. The acciaccatura articulation in the first section enhances the tension and agitation of the chromatic phrases that end with sharp cut-offs. As in the poem, the mood swings evoking the side-effects of insomnia: moods of fear, anxiety, nostalgia and wondering, which may be heard in the melodic material throughout the work.
Violin I - James Keene
Violin II - Karoline Barnet
